Why is Art rapidly going online?

Art has a lot of dimensions and there is no fixed definition or platform which could hold art to its own. As the forms of art increase, so does the platform on which they are popularized. In the beginning, only patrons of the artist could view the paintings/ sculptures. This changed later when paintings and sculptures became more popular and art became more for the masses. Gallery viewings were held and so did distribution of art.

This was when art as a trade was established. Yet, these paintings and sculptures remained largely hidden from the general public, inaccessible to them because of a privileged circle that they had built around it or the exorbitant prices they demanded. But with the onset of the 21st century, art has gone through a major breakthrough. The sale of art saw a new platform altogether, they were being sold online.

For the millennial, an individual in their 20s or 30s, purchasing their first piece of art was quite path breaking and like everything else they bought, this too was to be purchased online. Not only did the online purchase make it hassle free for the new age art connoisseur but it also meant they could buy limited edition prints of their favorite pieces in an online bid.

How does the online module work?

The online art world/ art trade meant that both artists as well as art buyers could make their transactions online. While the artist gains popularity through this medium; the buyer, especially one who is making their first buy is definitely finding a lot more comfort in this kind of an arrangement. It is anticipated that the value of online art will go up by almost double the margin in the coming years.

While there is buzz around on how the online art portal will affect the business of offline galleries and exhibition spaces, there is also talk that this will only the boost the sales of artwork both in the form of paintings as well as sculptures. When promoted through an online platform, to sell your artwork online or sell your paintings online would not be a mammoth task.

The evolution of art through the different movements as well as the growing trends in art has changed along with the change in centuries. Not only has browsing art become easy online but also that it has become much less intimidating as opposed to going to a gallery directly to buy art. This has only translated into an increasing number of patrons.

Does the online platform slow down the sales of galleries etc.?

While there are many who would like to see the launch of an online platform to sell your artwork online as the beginning of the end of physical galleries, it is also true that this can be viewed simply as an alternative medium through art can be showcased.

While not seeing the object may be something that may leave seasoned buyers apprehensive, it is not much of a problem for the younger generation who rely on the internet for a variety of purchases. This also means that the online arena guarantees a larger ratio of content customers/art patrons.

With the introduction of a number of art blogs which read into and help price the art, it has become much less tedious and much more risk-free to buy and sell your paintings online through websites such as Artiliving.
